I run in Brooks Trance or Asics Gel-Kayano 18s. I have a wide foot and I wear orthotics. Get fitted by someone who knows what they're doing

I prefer New Balance. Potomac River Running store will have you run a few seconds on a treadmill so the can see what shoe is best for your foot.

I buy my Sauconys at RNJ Sports in Rockville. They have a good selection of many brands. I like their salespeople and their prices.

It is just a matter of luck, what kind of salesperson you get. Running stores employ all kinds of staff and most runners are not shoe salesmen.

Echo PPs' advice to go to a specialty running store. I'm a New Balance runner all the way.

This is a gross generalization and not universally true by any stretch.

Actually it is more true and based in science than - go to a running store and have someone fit you based on a computer model that will put you in one of three categories, one of which is nearly guaranteed to cause injuries (motion control)

SOME studies have shown for SOME people that motion control could be a problem. I agree with the person who said you have made a generalization. proponents of barefoot running will tell you everyone should be doing that. Again, not universally true.
