I'll be honest, I would have never guessed she spent that much on her hair. Yes, her hair looks good - soft, shiny, that kind of thing. She has what looks like a basic cut, along Michelle Obama's style. I think she could get the same results for less.

Oh, is she AA? TBH, if she were, that would make more sense to me. I can see how getting relaxers often could add up to that.

Spoken like a true non-AA. I'm AA and I do my own perms...costs me $10 every 6 weeks. Even in a salon, the cost is about $60 and still every 6 weeks. You don't perm your hair every week.

Yes, she's AA. Relaxers cost that much? Wow!

She might have a really good weave, too! If that's the case she could be getting it rebraided regularly, buying high end weave. I find it a LOT more plausible for an AA woman to be spending that much on her hair per month than a white woman, for sure.

My big expense is coloring and highlighting my hair. Used to be every 4 months, now it is every 2 months. That is probably close to $300. I feel that is pretty extravagant. FWIW, I'm Caucasian and do not straighten my hair or mess with extensions.

I get my eyebrows done a few times a year. I think the initial visit was $60, follow ups are maybe $20.

I don't paint my fingernails, so those I keep neat on my own. I get a pedicure once a year on vacation, but keep my toes neat and painted on my own the rest of the year.

Neutrogena skin care products. I don't get facials.

I would like to have a deep tissue massage once a quarter, but have trouble scheduling it. That is around $100.

I don't belong to a gym.

I prefer not to total my shoe and clothing purchases.

$200 a week is a lot. But she finds it worth it. That does not mean it would be worth it to you. It is possible that those weekly visits mean she doesn't have to do anything else to her hair other than comb or brush it in the morning the other days of the week. That might be a time savings in her morning that is worth $200.

What do you spend it on? Just curious.

lol, okay.
I buy two bunches of flowers each week.
We go out to eat about 3x a week for dinner.
I go to lunch with friends 2-4x a week.
The other day I bought three of these for our house: http://www.gumps.com/p/two-tone-wool-cashmere-throw?cm_vc=Search
I take yoga classes, but also have two privates each week as well

See? It adds up.

I have totally let myself go -- but I religiously spend $40/month for eyebrow waxing. That's it tho.

I look like shit.

$84 on hair for color per month, haircut 2x yearly at $60 each
$42 on nails (more in the summer if I get a few pedis)
I spend very little on things like makeup and hair products.

I plan on spending more though. Toddler just started preschool and I lost the weight from the baby. I'm done having kids and feel like I finally have my body back. I'm going to buy myself some new clothes soon, keep up with things like eyebrow threading, now that dd will be out 3 mornings a week and I'll just have the baby.

Let's see... haircut 4 times a year at $100 a pop=$400
Pedicure with scrub and massage about six times a year at $40= $240

So that's about it if we're not counting day to day toiletries and clothing.

I try to eat well and get enough sleep. I walk a ton. I do need to exercise more but that entails going to the Wilson Aquatic Center (free) and doing yoga dvd's which I already have.

I'll admit, she does look fabulous. We've been friends since college and I'm not convinced it's the money she spends on herself that makes her look good. I could be wrong. I'm just curious how much other women spend to look good.

I also don't spend it on hair, but I easily spend between $100-$200 a month on clothing, make-up, personal care products, exercise apps etc.
