I've been taking magnesium citrate supplements before bedtime and they have a muscle relaxant/calming effect. They help me fall asleep (and stay asleep). My doc recommended 600mg, but honestly I do better with 800mg. There's also a product called Natural Calm which is the same thing in a powder form that you mix with water. I prefer the pills. Before this I would have terrible insomnia, waking up a 4 or 4:30 for the day. Took me a while though to see these effects (several months).

I was going to ask the same thing. Are you grieving or mourning, o
OP?
I was in deep grief in 2008-2009 and woke up between 3-4 each morning.

Explain this? Curious about that.

6AM for me. Some glorious mornings I can sleep a little later. At least I am up for the kids.

Careful with showers, raising your body temp right before bed is not a good idea. Interferes with sleep. 90-120 mins before shower or bath is however supposed to help.
Try valerian root extract (I think it might be a "tinture") about an hour before bedtime - that has been working for me, better than the melatonin.
Now, I just need to figure out where my period is - two days late so far (and no, pregnancy isn't a possibility).

When I turned 40 I found that if I went to bed before midnight, I woke up exactly 6 hours later...for the day. So I started trying to make it to midnight, but then I get a second wind and am up for hours. My new goal for 2013 will be to go to bed at 11pm and if I wake up at 5am, I will exercise.
