I don't know why someone would pay 1M for a home that is surrounded by poor neighborhoods. I know that exists, I'm not doubting you, but its not something that I find to be odd.

It is a federal program. If you are in a Title 1 school, it means you live in a poor neighborhood so the schools get federal money.

No, it doesn't. See another PP's response for a more complete definition. Schools are made up of many neighborhoods.

That's odd, I paid $400,000 for my house in my "poor" neighborhood-oh well, at least my kids are in small classes

If it's in MCPS, go to the website and look for the "school at a glance." Under programs, there will be something about federal Title I funds, or Focus funds. If not MCPS, find some accountability information and look for that. Or post here and people will tell you.

I forgot to add, not a Title I school, but a Focus school. so class sizes are still limited to something like 18 or 19 in grades k-2.

Title I means the school gets federal money (to reduce class size) because of a high percentage of students who qualify for Free and Reduced Meals. The qualifying percentage varies from year to year, but my kids go to a Title I school and it's about 75% FARMS.
