I come from a very strict Southern Baptist family. While I am an atheist, my brother totally embraced the religion. His family do not allow the females to wear pants. It's more of a "dress your sex" thing rather than modesty. They believe it is a big sin for a woman to wear men's clothing, or for a man to wear women's clothing. The modesty thing would be that they wear long skirts rather than short.

I have a Muslim friend who observes hijab (modest dress and scarf - not full face veil). She (along with many Muslims) believes pants are immodist for women to wear because they show the shape of the legs. However, she says that as long as the woman wears a long tunic over the pants - that covers the butt and thigh area - it's okay.

Women who are adorning themselves in modest dresses, skirts, shirts and pants are rebelling against the results of the sexual revolution that triumphed in the 1960's. Victory in this war will require the discipline and the diligence of soldiers in battle, but violence is not necessary. Make no mistake, the women's revolution for modest dress is a war. You may recall from the initial installment of “A Women's Revolution for Modest Dress” that the movement away from modesty began as class warfare against the elite's standards of wearing a long modest dress.

Now that the elite have embraced practices and rituals of the sexual revolution they are not going to give them up easily. However, I reiterate, a women's revolution for modest dress need not turn violent. All you need to do, ladies, is go about your daily business wearing modest clothing, and dress your little girls in modest apparel.

b/c they left less to the imagine re the crotch/butt area

I have been strangely obsessed with the Duggars since their first special when they only had 14 kids, and this has always been my take on the skirt issue. Even the oldest girls that volunteer with the fire department had "fire skirts" specially made for them so they wouldn't have to wear pants.

In their society, it is always the woman's fault if they do anything to turn the heads of men and fill them with lust, hence the long skirts and general frumpiness.

There was some super religious nut that used to come to my university with a megaphone and preach that it was sinful to wear pants bc he could see women's crotches.

Men need to control their lustful thoughts. Then it won't be on the woman to wear a tent in summer.

Pp, grow up
Ancient romans wore tongas.
Men started to wear pants as they hunted and worked in the fields.
So fashion just evolved.
If you think pants are shocking, just go to the beach

If women wear pants, you can see where their legs join together. And if men see this, they will have Impure Thoughts, and thus, uh, ... Bad Things. Or something.
