In what way is she not ready for tampons? I mean, as soon as you get your period aren't you ready for them? I know Playtex makes a line that's easier for younger girls - athletic or something - I can't remember what it's called. My suggestion is to have her use tampons - just try each brand until you find one that she likes best.

PP, introduce her to tampons. Try ob. They are easy to insert comfortably. It will change her life. Seriously.

I got mine in 3rd grade and was frightened. My mom would layer my pads during the school day so I would take one off and have another one or two under it. I stopped wearing tampons in early high school when I forgot one was in and went to put another.

Well, that, or she'd be on some kind of birth control to stop her period.

My dd got hers when she was 15.

My 12 year-old just started. I was surprised that she seemed to have a substantial flow (but probably not an especially "heavy" one) for 5 of the 6 days.

I remember my 1st few as light, too. (Shrugs.)

7th grade for me. The month before I turned 13. Luckily- it was a Saturday--spotting.

I remember them being very heavy and painful in middle school. Advil was my best friend. I remember having to o to the nurse in HS when they were really bad.

I was almost 12 when I got it. It was fairly light, more like spotting for the first few days but continued for like 9 days! Then came back a month later and was heavy and regular after that!

My DD got it a few months ago for the first time -- right around her 13th birthday. I was traveling for work and she handled it on her own. Her friends had given her a few pads "just in case." Her period so far is very light and I hope it stays that way for a while. I didn't get my period until 15, but within 2 years it was very heavy and has just gotten much worse in adulthood for me, to the point that I'm considering ablation to address it. I really hope she doesn't inherit those tendencies from me.

I was a very chunky kid and got it in 4th grade and it was very heavy and I never missed it again unless I was pregnant. I think it can really vary by kid.

My DD started 9 months ago. It was actually pretty heavy. I was surprised at that. It lasted almost a week. They have gotten lighter and shorter over the 9 mo. since she started. She is very regular and it is funny, but we now almost always start on the same day.
