Yes, it is possible that a child will be teased with any rhymes that come from his name, and someone on the playground will inevitably think of this. Some names are particularly unfortunate. But Rory is not that bad, and even if you did find a completely neutral name, determined kids will find a way to tease based on something else (e.g. Chubby Wubby). If you love the name, you shouldn't let this stop you.

I went to school with a girl named Rory (a century ago) and I never heard her called that.

In 2011, Rory was the given name of 411 baby boys (putting it at #598 for boys) and 287 baby girls (#900 for girls).

Seems to me to be a boy's name for the Brits and a female nn for Americans.

I just read a book where a character was named Aurora, and her nickname was Rory.

Team either a boy or a girl name.

Well, I had not thought of that nickname in the past, but I'm pretty sure that, from now on, everyone I encounter named "rory", will be referred to as "rory-whorey"

What's your explanation for Rory Kennedy? Or the two 34 year old women I know named Rory?

I have known countless Rorys in my life (both boys and girls). The first one I met in first grade. I have never thought of "whorey" in association with the name.
