I am a Black female over the age of 40 and I have been profiled only once. The other times I was pulled over were legit. That one time was many years ago in Vineland NJ, and I was 23 years old.

My brother on the hand was stopped multiple times in his youth simply because he was a young black male. I think both your daughter and son will be okay in regards to DWB.

Like previously mentioned, your daughter will be profiled often while shopping. It's sick. It's sad. It's America. Oprah Winfrey herself was profiled at Hermes in NYC when the shopkeeper saw a Black woman coming towards the shop and ran to lock the doors. It was not until later that she recognized the Black woman she locked out as billionaire Oprah Winfrey.

Race race race. Don't be a bitch, don't disobey the law and don't sit in the left lane.

I'm wondering if racial profiling is also effected by the kind of car a black man is driving. I'm white, my husband is black. He has only ever been stopped once by a cop who was checking seat belts. He also drives a beige Chevy Malibu. I'm wondering if he drove a souped up bmw or a car that's falling apart if it would make a difference?

FWIW, we live in NYC and no one seems to care that we are a mixed race couple.

However, if your daughter cannot control her sassing, it will cause her more problems in life than just when she gets a speeding ticket.

This thread would lead you to believe that Black people need to live in fear.

I'm a 38y/o AA male. I've been pulled over at least 2x in my life for questionable reasons. I put my hands on the 2 and the 10 and got off both with warnings.

OP, we are also a biracial couple (I am black and my husband is white) who moved over here from the UK.  I also went through a culture shock -from never thinking about my color to being very aware of it. 

My experience has been different from the PP's. We live in a predominantly white (quite upscale) neighborhood and I have been profiled, as in stopped simply so the police officer can run my license. I get really annoyed  but I keep shtum and just call my husband afterwards to vent. I was in my 30s when we moved here from the UK and had never been stopped by the police. Since moving here I have been stopped about 8 times in 10 years and all of those times were around my neighborhood.  My husband has been stopped once for not replacing some permit.

I have also been profiled in stores a lot. It really used to upset me having never experienced that before on the UK and never in my country of origin in Africa but I take it in my stride now.  I am a SAHM and I admit that i am often on sweat pants and a tee shirt so I probably look like I don't belong.

My son is only 10 but I already worry tremendously about him already.

No, of course not. I'm just curious what is first hand knowledge and what is not. 2 people who have identified themselves have said they have not really experienced it from cops and think it is more reserved for black males. Just curious if the pps.from the first page who talked about being labeled in the judicial system etc (sorry i forget their exact wording) are speaking from experience or just what they've heard about or read. I think there is a difference.

Yes, agree with this. I think the OP was very clear that her daughter is sassy and that that can be a big problem for a black teen in contrast to a white teen.

Slightly off topic, but OP I just returned from 3 years in england and was amazed by how many mixed race couples there were there. Made me realize how few we have here, and how big the barriers here are.

I don't recall ever being pulled over because of my race. I have been pulled over for (legitimate) traffic issues. I, too, have a sassy mouth, but I learn to taper it when dealing with police. Some have been assholes, some have been nice. Doubt it had anything to do with my race.

I do have young men in my family who have been profiled/harassed by police. I'm 99% positive race was a factor in those incidents.

Like a pp, I have had issues being watched in stores, etc. Like her, it left me upset/disgusted/pissed/discouraged/etc.

OP, I think your daughter will be fine (as it relates to "driving while black"). That phenomenon, sadly, is usually reserved for black males.

I'm curious as to how many of you PPs are black. The only PP who identified herself as black said she'd only been profiled a small handful of times and they were all during shopping excursions. She'd never experienced any type of racial profiling when she'd been pulled over as a teenager.
