I don't think anyone is saying that. Merely that she cannot and will not appeal to many African-American voters because her experience is not one they uniformly share. Despite the advances of the black middle class, there are still too many blacks living in systemic poverty. I'm not here to reopen the debate on reasons why, merely providing a political analysis. Her experience is more in line with middle-class white Americans, and that is who they wanted her to speak to, to demonstrate (unconvicingly) that they are an "inclusive" party because they can trot out a few minorities. They'd convince me more if they could bring out scores of Catholic Hispanics, whose religious views make them more naturally sympathetic to Republican ideas about social issues, but there's no evidence that Hispanics are going for the party in droves because their line on immigration is so draconian. Today's Republicans make GWB look like a genius and a prophet where that issue is concerned.


I agree, but I was specifically addressing the "wrong kind of black" charge.

I don't know that she's expected to sway AA's specifically, I think the aim is more towards women.

she also appeals mainly to immigrants or rather people who are children of immigrants. speaking of hard work and not relying on government plays into the conservative mindset so it doesnt hurt that she speaks from that angle as well.

i was actually going to follow up on my earlier comment and say that some people are minimizing love way too much because she is known in republican circles. she has a chance to be a "star" in the party if she wins her race and sure her being black and republican doesnt hurt that cause. and again, i say all this as a dem.
