Pines of Rome? Oh, thank you. i remember great times with my DD, her classmates and the moms from Concord Hill during the late 90's. Haven't been there in ages. The last time I was there Helen Thomas was sitting at the table next to ours. Good times. Will have to go there just for the white pizza. Thanks for the memories.

This is a really hard question -- most of these places are not good or not old. I might have to nominate Pasta Mia.

We live near Chureria and always wondered about the quality of the food. It seems kind of dingy from the outside.

AV closed in 2007. It did not have great food, just a great "Sopranos" atmosphere. I second Martin's and Tabard Inn if you want old DC places. Are Meskerem and Millie and Al's still in Adams Morgan? That was my old stomping ground back in the days of my youth.

Yes, Meskareem is still around and still quite good. You can even get restaurant.com deals for dining in there.

Oceaniare? Jaleo? Rosa Mexicano?

Sorry, but Oceanaire has gone seriously downhill and Rosa Mexicano has not been in DC "forever" (also not worth it). Jaleo is still delicious though.

Tabard Inn Restaurant is great. I don't know how long it's been there, I think it has been a pretty long time.

See now I think of that not only as a new restaurant, but in a new building (aka the Tower Records building). I guess I am dating myself.

I remember being excited about going to the french restaurant where the wait staff was on roller skates. I think it made up for the so-so food.

RIP Sam & Harry's.

What happened to them? One day they were just -- gone.

L'Auberge chez Francois is still worth going to. And it's not so hard to get in now. I like the Tabard Inn. Otherwise not too much. Of course some of those places weren't that great to begin with. We had different tastes back then.

I know. It's so funny how we used to see the Japanese Steak House? off of Wisc+R as the ultimate exotic cuisine.
