Thanks for your response. It's funny because just this morning I started looking for VCU information. If you know anything about the school, would you say it's considered a "commuter" school or do most of the students live on campus?
*U of Pittsburgh gets a C in diversity (80% white), so I don't think my daughter will be comfortable in this setting.

We are AA. Not interested in an HBCU. Also want to go at least 3 hours from home (so UMD is out).
I have Drexel and Syracuse on my list. Daughter took the SAT without studying and got a 1530 (not great). I've hired a tutor and am hoping she'll gain at least 200 points. GPA in the 3.3-3.5 range.
Would like a school in an urban environment. Would also prefer a school that wasn't a "commuter-school".
Thanks for all of the great help so far. Will definitely look into some of these (esp U of Rochester).

Current stats probably put her at the bottom quartile, but I second the Pitt recommendation. Urban, diverse, smack in the middle of numerous places to study/work/shadow in biology and related fields, green (wins environmental awards), 18,000ish? undergrads, fun Div 1 basketball and about 4 hours away. If you're in VA, I'd look seriously at VCU.

Why? What about bio or chem as a major for a student interested in med school?

Ok, OT but how could you go to CMU and major in EE instead of CE?
Could you translate? I consider myself pretty savvy, but this stumps me. OT is Off Topic? CMU is clearly Carnegie Melon. But what about the rest of it? EE = electrical engineering or environmental engineering? And CE?
Who would go to CMU to major in Civil Engineering? I thought elec engr was considered the epitome of nerdville. At least we wore that claim like a badge of honor.

Pitt is about 75% white students so it might not meet the OP's diversity criteria.
It's hard to find greater diversity unless you seek out historically black colleges.
Bowie State, Howard Univ or UDC.
