You can get stone ground grits at Harris Teeter. Usually in paper bags and tied with twine or string.

If you make them at home, you MUST get the right grits. I haven't seen stone ground grits here. Where do you get them. I know you can get them online.

In North Carolina, Crooks Corner restaurant in Chapel Hill is famous for its shrimp and grits. The link is to their version, which is fantastic. For some reason, a lot of restaurants in DC attempting to do shrimp & grits leave the shells on the shrimp---leaving you to try to either peel by hand (and get grits all over your finger) or attempt to peel using a knife and fork---with a strong likelihood that a projectile shrimp will fly across the table.

With that said, the upscale affiliate restaurant to Ben's Chili Bowl on U Street used to serve a decent version at their brunch.
