OP, I think you can wear whatever you are comfortable wearing. I also agree with the above posters that you were very kind to think of religious customs. I am a member of the JCCNV and have seen a long gamet of swimsuits over the years. I think anything goes there! Enjoy your class!

OP: There are many fairly religious people who wouldn't wear a suit like yours, but otherwise would "pass" for secular. I don't think they care what you wear. If you feel uncomfortable, go for the tankini or one piece next time. My bet is that you saw a mix of modesty, practical bathing suits, and moms who haven't yet lost the baby weight. There's no Jewish prohibition against two pieces.

And thanks for asking.

Which means you were comfortable with what you were wearing. Which means you shouldn't wear it.

What an odd theory. I am naturally comfortable and self-confident, but I always pay attention to the comfort of others.

ON Sundays, many of the dads bring the kids into the JCC for swim class. Some are in lousy shape with big bellies hanging over their swim trunks..much more of a sight than a woman in a two piece.

Your post made me smile OP. I'm Jewish and took my daughter to Toddler swimming in Rockville way back when too. We loved it. I am a swimmer and wore a SPEEDO racing suit, but I saw tankinis.

No worries! You are fine. I don't even see so many Orthodox/Conservatively clad women in there but is is nice of you to be so culturally sensitive to the surroundings. I am guessing you are not Jewish?

You're fine. Just enjoy the class!

You were spending too much time checking out the other suits. I'm sure if I were you I wouldn't have noticed what I was wearing compared to others unless I got a hairy eyeball or some comments.

Which means you were comfortable with what you were wearing. Which means you shouldn't wear it.
