Subject: Last week of August daycare is closed -- where can I enroll toddler for 1 week?
To those who stay at home with one and send the other to daycare ...arent you worried about any issues this may cause? Abandonment, sibling jealousy etc?

I don't think we are judging keeping toddler in daycare while on maternity leave with infant(s). We are judging her saying she is "unable" to care for all 3 for one week. Op, guess what? You have 3 kids now. This is a great opportunity to get comfortable with it. Yes call in some reinforcements here and there but watch your kids by yourself for the week. You can do it! You might even enjoy it! Then yoU could have a 4th!

You can totally do this, OP. When I was 13 years old, I routinely babysat a family in my neighborhood that had 4 young kids. And I totally managed. I also had several 3-kid houses, including one I nannied for one summer. compared to that, the one child I have now is a breeze.
Depending on how old your child is and where you live, there might be a camp where your daughter can go for at least part of the day. Mother's helper might be tough to find since the schools will be back in session by then.

My son is 2 and super spirited. He goes to daycare while I stay home with the 10 month old. I have NO shame about this. I tried watching them both and it was miserable for me and the kids. I was a wreck and he was being disciplined all the time. Every child and parent is different. No point being a miserable person for your kids. Get help!

I think it is way more important as parents to know our own limitations and know when to ask for help than to strive to perform to some level of parental perfection. Sheesh.
OP, I don't know about drop in daycares, and I don't know your budget, but we have had some good luck with White House Nannies. I would also second the suggestion of a mother's helper or college-aged babysitter to back you up at home. Maybe they can take DD out for day trips to the park, museum, library, etc. while still being based at home.

She has twin babies at home. She probably could care for the older daughter too, but perhaps then everyone gets short shrift because mom is spread too thin. What's wrong with seeking a little help? What?! I am a SAHM with a toddler and a 4 month old. I am with them every day by myself and it's not that big of a deal. Yes, I am tired and I get frustrated when the toddler keeps interrupting me when I'm trying to get the baby down for a nap, and it's tough when the toddler needs to go potty when the baby is nursing, but we make it through. I'm less strict about TV now that I have two, and I am known to occasionally bribe the oldest when I really need him to do something, but it gets us through the day. I know plenty of SAHMs with three kids and no help. If OP has infant twins, I can see how she may need some help, but being home with just two (or more) kids is normal life for lots of women.

Check out Bright Horizons backup care. A lot of them take kids for a daily charge. Might be worth looking into.

Can your parents or in-laws or other family come visit or help out a bit? I'm in the same boat with daycare closed for a week in August. I have a toddler & 4 month old. I'm thinking through some things to do but it would be much more complicated with 2 infants. I understand your feelings.
