We've never let this stop us from traveling and on vacation we share a room and put her to sleep first and turn the lights off until shes asleep. We either leave the room or pretend to be sleeping. Then once she's asleep we keep lights dim. We adjust our schedule to hers mostly on vacation so we start our days early and end them early. We don't mind.. we'd rather do that than sacrifice travel!

This is what we've done with our LO. She goes down at 830, or more commonly on vacay shed fall asleep in the car on our return from dinner. If not, dad laid with her as she went down and mom napped in bed (LO was in foldaway). After the coast was clear, we'd shower and use our laptops/iPads quietly til midnite when we went down. We didn't think it'd work so well but u would be surprised what a toddler is capable of when tired from tourig around all day.

If you don't want to get a suite, one possibility is for you to get a larger room that fits an extra rollaway bed. This way, you can create a sleeping area for your child and follow a similar ritual as at home. Nicer hotels have high quality extra beds from our experience. I agree with other posts that sleeping at a similar time as your child helps. Last, if you are planning to stay at hotels more often going forward, you may want to create a special routine with your child and explain beforehand. We have been traveling all over the world with our child since she was a baby and she now at age 5 has a routine for both on the plane and at hotels.
