Is 6000 rounds normal? What do you mean normal? Common? Average? Cost-Effective? I would think that many target shooting enthusiasts would have 6000 rounds. It's a lot cheaper when you buy 500 or 1000 vs., say, one box of 50. I have 9mm, 40, 357 Sig, and 45 ACP pistols for target shooting. If I purchased in bulk (I don't), I would think I could have 4000 rounds easily. As it is, I probably have 1000. Add in a few boxes of .223 for the evil black rifle and some boxes of 12 and 20 gauge shot shells for trap, skeet, and sporting clays for good measure.

I do have a difficult time defending the high capacity drum magazines.

Oh come on, how many rounds do you fire off in your average practice session? A standard static drill is 30 rounds, and maybe 50 rounds for a high speed police training exercise, where you are emptying your gun at 2/sec.

Let's embrance the thinking of Justices Scalia and Thomas and the Original Intent crowd, and do this: Apply the Second Amendment to all arms that were in existence at the time that the Second Amendment was passed, with no restrictions. Concealed carry (admittedlyhard with muskets), unlimited purchases, gun shows, the works. But ban everything else for civilian use, because surely M-16s, AK-47s and other assault weaons were not within the wildest contemplation of our Founding Fathers. PP You don't know much about weapons or gunsmithing as you profess to. There are multiple urls on the Internet proposing to explain how to convert your weapon an AR16. to Military fully auto spec. Parts are available doesn't appears to be an overwhelming task. Same outlets will sell body armor gas masks and many have specials on a "brand of ammo, Zombie rounds, the description of which is obscene with racial implication.

Have you ever shot an AR-15? You can bump fire the thing. Not that it matters because there isn't much point in going beyond the semi-automatic rate in a situation like the the colorado killing. Your reload time would be your limiting factor. And you do not need to modify the lower receiver unless you change the caliber of the weapon.
