MS compounds (permetherin-like) also kills tics. we use it for lyme prevention and control. our kids aren't into playing with the foliage and they don't spray the deck or the swingset, so we stay inside for half the day and then head out. also, permetherin is commonly used to treat scabies and lice, where its applied for prolonged periods to the scalp and body and i think its been used for a really long time on children and i don't think there have been any known long-term side effects from permetherin.

MS also has a natural garlic-based product.

Your dog got sick. BS, they use a similar product the is in frontline or other flea treatments.

as long as you make sure they don't spray your yard (or your fences or plants or barriers, which they sometimes do... make sure you instruct them not to), your kids would be ok in your yard after 30-60 minutes after they spray.

they spray multiple times because it wears off -- a MS contract requires them to come back all summer and respray.

MS sprays our neighbors house, and I haven't been home for it but I'm pretty sure they get spray on our stuff too, and it annoys me to no end. We have dead bees all around the periphery near our neighbors house... My favorite part is when they bring over herbs and vegetables from their garden. I feel bad, but the second they leave I throw them in the trash. There is no way I'm eating or feeding my family tomatoes and basil that has been sprayed from here to infinity with insecticides...

OP, have you any idea of the chemicals and pollutants EVERYWHERE in the city?! You sound hysterical.

See that's the thing, OP. If you choose to live in that type of neighborhood you have to accept that you are going to be subject to things that your neighbors do, whether it's loud noise, ugly lawn ornaments, or pesticide spraying. There is no proof that mosquito squad poses any danger once it is dry. But if you are uncomfortable with stuff like this I think you might want to consider moving to the suburbs or even the country. I'm not being snarky -- some people are not cut out for city life, especially once they have kids.

The spray doesn't only kill the mosquitos, it also kills nice bugs like lightening bugs. The company says the chemicals are safe for little kids to play in the backyard 30 minutes afterwards, but isn't it to their benefit to say this. What about the effect on the streams and rivers? I say - try the garlic, don't put these poisonous chemicals in the environment. And yes, I am a Republican, but I can still care about the environment. What about a bat house?

It is my understanding that some cities routinely spray down their entire district as a matter of routine mosquito/west nile virus control with this stuff. You just don't know about it.

I live in one of these cities and you absolutely know about it. They are required to send you a letter informing you of it, you are allowed to add yourself to a do-not-spray list (maintained by the state), and have to change your status in writing with them if you want to be sprayed in the future (they still send you the letter each year).

Just curious...if a person lives in close quarters, such as a rowhouse situation, is the spraying even effective? If the neighbors don't spray, wouldn't their mosquitos just come into your yard? It's only a matter of 20 feet or so. Seems like a waste of money to me.

Are you my neighbor? Your husband made faces at me yesterday and demanded to know the MS formula... even though our lawns don't even touch at any point! We've had MS spraying since April so I don't understand the sudden hysteria. And this is the first summer our kids have been able to use the backyard without running inside after 5 mins ravaged by bugbites. Plus we had a Lyme scare this spring. I know, pesticides are not my favorite thing, but neither is staying inside for 4 or 5 months of the year.

Anyway, if it is you, you're hardly in the running for neighbor of the year and I suspect you REALLY can't afford to alienate another neighbor, so please don't do the passive-aggressive thing on DCUM. They spray once a month and give us a heads up which I'm happy to pass along if it's such a concern...If you're not my neighbor, well, then go about your business being a PITA to someone else.

Its their home and their choice and having mosquitos in your yard with kids causes other problems. I've considered using them but I don't want the chemicals in my yard. You don't want your neighbors telling you what to do with your property, so don't have opinions on theirs.

We use mosquito squad and love it. They don't spray all over, just as a barrier around the edges. And, yes, it dries in 30 minutes. I know...little comfort for you, but just sayin.
