I really like dark hard wood floors. Seen them a lot recently on HGTV

They show dust continuously. They also fade more and faster than medium or light woods. They make the room feel smailler if you don't have really high ceilings.

I think that dark hardwoods are pretty but look best in airy rooms with high ceilings.

Idk how dark you mean by espresso but we have dark shadevof cherry and I love them. Home Depot.

Dust and dirt is SO visible. My parents are empty nesters, no pets, have their house cleaned every couple weeks, super tidy house the rest of the time... and the extremely dark floors alway look dusty/dirty. Especially because they have a lot of natural light. I love the floors in theory but after seeing theirs, I would nevery get them. I have a medium tone wood and it had held up well, looks good with everything (some of our furniture is the dark wood... which is also a pain to keep dust free), and doesn't hardly show anythimg.

Why not a semi dark stain. Super dark is super trendy and I love it. It's fine if you can vacuum daily and NEVER wear shoes in the house.

Personally I go for looks over practicality.
I wanted super dark and the sample of the stain looked dark but didn't turn out as dark as the sample somehow!!

Make sure you have a really good refinisher. Our floors were great until they messed up the last coat. We had to start sanding all over again!!!!!!!!!!!!
Had to move out. Clean up took HOURS. Furniture had to be moved (it arrived a few days after the floors were done the first time. We couldn't stop the movers once we scheduled the date)

Medium wood tones are awful - anything orange like is dreadful.

We have very dark wood floors and I loved them initially BUT they are impossible to keep clean. Every foot print shows up...lint...dust...its so annoying.

I would go with lighter unless you mop your floors daily.

We did a 1:1 mix of Dark Walnut and Provincial in our expanded cape, and it looks great. Dark but still shows the grain. I don't think it makes our rooms looks small, but we also have very light paint color on our walls.

we have old hardwood pine woods stained fairly dark, though not fully expresso. they look beautiful, but so hard on scratching (hard pine scratches more easily then oak and dark shows the scratches more). So we need to do regular touch ups. dirt not as much an issue, but I think that's bc old pine has color variations

We have natural cherry floors- I love the look of the different natural shades in the wood and a lot of people say they like them when they come over. I have to admit, if I were looking at houses, the dark espresso color would turn me off, but I guess there's always an element of personal taste going on with any house decision. Does anyone know if it would be easy for a future buyer to change the espresso color to something more neutral?

I have Brazilian cherry and don't consider it particularly dark (it is supposed to darken over time & ours are only 4 years old though). I also think it hides dirt very well.

But I hate the espresso colored floors. Maybe I just like a more natural look.

That medium "butterscotch" color is also called "bowling alley yellow" and it is not a compliment. It should be avoided at all cost. You dont have to go expresso dark but darker is better. If your floors are really beat up you cold consider paintingt them or a whitewash too.
