It depends. I had one failed I've where I was fine after retrieval, just very tired the day of. I just finished a second successful round and I've been gutted. Things were bad for the first few days after retrieval then got better, then worse as my hcg started rising again. I've had to take time off work 2w after it. But this is probably not normal.

For one I had less pain and then I traveled out of state after another one -- and for that I had tremendous pain that really got worse about 8-10 after the retrieval. I was stuck in NYC without any meds, which you can't call in by phone. So they called in Tramadol is something that was not as strong and I had to walk kind of bent over to a taxi to get it. And they didn't even help that much. Total nightmare.

I am 27 years old. This is my first IVF cycle. I took stimulation injections for 13 days. I was experiencing some shooting abdominal pain due to increased size of overies from day 8 onwards. The pain used to last for few mins only. It was not bad at all.
Today is my egg retrival day. Everything was just normal and fine a day before. But this morning around 5am I woke up with tremendous abdominal pain and it was so bad. I could not take it. It made my tears roll down. I could neither StaND or sleep, sit. I called the doctor's office and they told me to come to the hospital early.
I hope everything goes well hereafter.

Very very bad cramping for me after retrieval for 1-2 days. My RE also did prick my ovarian cyst which I had at that time.

First IVF cycle, day 9 on stims, and i have cramps and feeling very lethargic. Hoping that they will tell me to trigger tonight! ovaries are so sore!

I was good until day 7 into stims. Then I felt discomfort as my body responded to the meds. As my doses increased I felt nauseous, tired and was not myself. I am very sensitive and really could feel the pressure of my ovaries responding. To the point that I was uncomfortable walking or sitting abruptly. Had retrieval today-14!!!! Wiped by anesthesia and slept all day. Feel uncomfortable and some cramping, definitely could not work. Everyone is different. However, others I have known told me they had the same experience and weren't expecting it.

More eggs = more pain for me - I ached after my ER, but managed to host a dinner party with family that was in town the evening of my ER.
not suggesting that's a great idea, but hey, my family was in town for Thanksgiving. And, i was feeling pretty thankful for a bunch of eggs that were mature!

I've always had it hard! About 2-3 days before retrieval, I start to feel heavy and bloated and crampy-definitely had more difficulty walking, etc.
After ER, the first time I could not stop throwing up (I think it was from the anesthesia). The second time I was a little nauseous but otherwise just sleepy. Both times, however, I literally felt like I had my insides ripped out. I had to use a heating pad, I took Tylenol (not the rx they gave me just because I didn't want to get nauseous). I was also really gassy. This lasted about 2-3 days. I was still really bloated by my 5 day transfer...
