And here I thought that recent wild gentrification in my Green Line neighborhood might mean that this would be a quiet Fourth. Oh well...

We are going to our friend $4m "trashy" house, where they are the "trashy" house in the neighborhood, and the whole neighborhood will be setting off fireworks. All are invited because hell, it's the Fourth of July! OP, does your neighbor not know what day it is? They sound bizarre, busy body and over controlling, as you mentioned. Every once in a while there is a neighbor like that. Trust me, I've never once seen neighbors like that win their "argument". Have fun!

We live in Upper NW and will be setting off our trashy, dangerous fireworks.

Amateur fireworks are dangerous and shouldn't be legal.

I live the Ward 3 life that is pilloried on DCUM every week. Well, I don't put the private school sticker on the back of my SUV, but other than that)

I am also pure! unapologetic! trash! Sometimes I fill up that SUV on Wisconsin @ Ellicott when I'm not wearing shoes! Sometimes ... my bra is showing when I do it. (after drop-off, of course).

I love shooting off my own fireworks. This year, we drove to Pennsylvania to buy fireworks that are illegal in the District. (hint: they fly through the air horizontally).

See you at the new parent coffee in September, beyotch. I'll be the one with the missing fingertip and the Celine handbag.

What do they fight about?

Difference in Ward 3 is that we shoot them off rather than at each other.

I had no idea that folks in Ward 3 did fireworks--I always assumed it was an east of the park phenomenon.

can everyone wrap it up by midnight? I understand it's the 4th, but please have some sympathy for families with noise-sensitive kids and dogs. I think dusk to midnight is plenty of time to trash it up.

HAHAHAHAHA. How would this differ from disturbing your neighbors who did have power? What does lacking power have to do with it?

If it is legal and you want to set it off, set if off. I live in a rural area and don't ask my firework-crazy neighbors to stop because it upsets my horses. I think fireworks are silly and dangerous, but they can do as they like within the law.

This. Maybe invite them for dinner and share in the setting off of fireworks or just watch your kids light them?

We are lighting them. The vast majority of the neighborhood has power.
