Sounds like there is a lot of throwing a fit in your family. Is this cultural - I mean are loud, raucous exchanges maybe the way they communicate.

Get some TVs and blast them. Word is everyone hates TVs.

I am the OP of this thread, just saw it in recent topics- the weekend was a total disaster, by the way! And this is totally random that the thread was resurrected because my in laws are coming for another visit in a few days. Good times.

New poster here. I completely hear what you're saying, OP. The solution we have come up with is that when it's time for DH to visit with his family, he goes to visit them out of state alone (my excuse to stay home is work, or not being able to find a pet sitter for the trip, etc). Or, he plans a mother-son bonding trip with his mother (his parents are divorced), and they go on a mini vacation somewhere and do something fun together. That way I don't have to see my in-laws. My in-laws haven't been to our house in years. Them coming to the house seems to lead to the arguments. We just don't invite them and they don't invite themselves, because they feel they see DH enough by him visiting them alone and also doing the mother-son bonding trip.

I think your DH is running over you by forcing you to participate in this drama. I agree his family needs to stay in a hotel.
