I like regular and DH is going decaf. Can't brew an entire pot that way. The kcups are a perfect solution. Also great for evening guests with these requests!

This. I can't believe I bought into this crap. I wish I had shelled out the dough and just bought a real gleaming espresso machine. The Keurig is a trash generator and the coffee it makes is truly mediocre.

The convenience cannot be beat BUT if you are used to the taste and quality of grinding & brewing your own beans, the Keurig will not meet your standards.

We drink Newman's Extra Bold and I'm still missing my grind and brew.

OP here. Many thanks to all of you for the helpful feedback! When we were at the beach a month ago, the condo where we stayed had one. We all enjoyed trying out different kinds of coffee and tea, so I'd been thinking about replacing our aging Cuisinart with a Keurig. I especially loved the convenience and thought the taste of Green Mountain was really good but did miss the smell of freshly ground coffee.

We love ours. Use it for coffee in the AM and tea in the afternoon. I don't buy the teas though, I just buy tea bags and use the machine for instant hot water, which is great. I can have tea, my friend can have a cup of coffee, and I can throw a teaspoon of hot cocoa in a cup and DS can have his drink, too. They have kcups off tea and hot cocoa but they are $$ and not worth it IMHO.

If you use the reusable filter ( I bought an "ekobrew"), and fill it with your own coffee, it does not create any more waste than any other method of making coffee. So chill, Captain Planet.

depends on how strong you like your coffee. The strong dark roasts are still pretty weak - well, mild, but weak for me. They are good, like others say for when you want different flavors or just one cup, but I use the Starbucks Via for that - much easier, less waste, and stronger coffee.

Before Via, I'd just make my own French roast. Poor hot water into a glass measuring cup with grounds in them. Let it sit for a few minutes, then pour it into my cup over a strainer. Very little mess, no waste (except for coffee grounds) and nice rich coffee. Yum.

I love it! Bought one a year ago and would never go back. I'm the only coffee drinker in the house and only drink one cup a day, so the capacity and cost are not issues for me.

The machines need frequent descaling if you use DC tap water. This process is kind of a pain. Otherwise they are very prone to pump failure. There is no option to repair so any mechanical failure ends up as landfill. Keurig are however good about in-warranty replacements - as long as you tell them you have descaled regularly......
