There are older threads that folks have started on "must haves" for the first couple of weeks -- a search of the archives may help with your research. But, it's also helpful to reach out to a mama friend who you feel has a similar attitude towards stuff (or whose parenting style you admire). What one person might consider a must have item others will disdain....

c'mon folks -- let's be nice to the OP here. She came here looking for guidance and recognized that she had too much on her list and needed to make it shorter. No need to call her names! How about some practical guidance instead or not saying anything at all.....

Let's face it -- if you go off of the lists that the stores give you as a guideline and register for everything they tell you you will need, you can easily hit the 200 item mark...

Also, people feel a lot freer to go "off registry" with baby showers than with weddings. IME only about 50% of people bought me registry stuff.

Wow. I have 40 on BRU and 55 on Target and was worried it was too much. My goal is for baby stuff not to take over our house. I haven't yet registered for any feeding stuff (bottles, plates, spoons, high chair), pacifiers (going to try and not use one or go with pediatrician's recommendation), or baby-proofing supplies. I'll get all that stuff later if I need it, or if after my shower here there's not much left, I will add it in before my shower back home. 225...wow.

Agree, don't register for clothes or books. People really do just pick out what they like and you will definitely get multiple copies of each book. . Register for your nursery items and big ticket items and be sure to provide a variety of price ranges.

17:52 has a point. I would say more like over 50 I think "get a grip". Over 100 I think "this is a fucking joke right". OP has reached epic levels...over 225 and I think "this woman is an idiot and is going to be a nutjob of a parent".
