For me, it's hot when it gets to 90 and above. Here is a great column from the Washington Post about our 90 degree days and heat waves.

Short: we average about 36 days of 90 or higher per year with the peak in July when we average 14 days at or above that mark.

As of today, we have had 2 days in May and 8 days in June that were 90 or higher. which is close to the historical average.

OP I have to ask: where are you from? I am not from here either. You need to be prepared for oppressive summers; and during winter, if it snows the place will be closed down because they claim it never snows here. You have to laugh at what an embarrassment it is for the area, even Obama could not believe it his first term in office. Wimps.

No, it will get worse. When I was pregnant in the summer of 2010, I think that we had 70 something days of 90+ degree heat.
DC was a swamp that was filled in with dirt. It's miserable here in the summer.

Sure, but winter still sucks because it's just days upon endless days of doing indoor things or being miserable when you finally cave and go to the playground because it's going to be 48 degrees that day. The peak heat is July and August. But beware that we frequently have "Indian summer" that hits for 2-3 weeks in mid-to-late September. It will cool down in early September and then often ramp up again. By the last week of September we enter the fall season and weather.

Yes, as many others have posted, temps in the 80's is mild weather for this time of year. We are typically in the high 80's to low 90's in June (like this coming weekend) with the effective temperature over 100 due to high humidity. After 28 years in this area, my brother who lives in Texas still can't believe that average temp in July/August is comparable to Texas and that we often have individual days that are hotter here than Texas even if the average temp across the month is higher in Texas. But, that's what happens with a city built on a swamp.

+1. Today is pleasant. It's the humidity that's the killer. Just wait until Friday... and it will stay that way all weekend and into next week. You're in for dog days, OP. After a while your body will acclimate.

No one told you this before you came here? Also wonder why tourists insist on coming here in the summer. October, April, and May are the most beautiful months here, IMO.
