I would tell them, "Look, what you are doing is so very wrong and should be stopped immediately. But at the very least, stop because you don't know how your victims are going to react. They may just bring daddy's loaded gun to school tomorrow and blow a hole in your chest. Knock it off!".
We don't need another Columbine.
Good point.
If a bully won't stop for any other reason (because most just won't), they might stop if they understand that their victims might not always cower and remain victims; they might bring in "reinforcements".

The secret is to avoid being targeted. Bullies sniff out weakness and vulnerability and exploit it. Give your kid a way to exude physical confidence -- get them proficient in martial arts, gymnastics, sports, whatever.
Also, if your kid ever gets physically targeted, always file a police report and let the kid and the parents know. If you were walking down the street and another adult punched you in the face, that would be assault and you could prosecute for it. Don't trivialize the same behavior in kids because they're "just kids".

These are the same type of kids whose parents pull them out of school for a week to go to Disney. The rules don't apply to them.
Our school doesn't have a rule stating you can not take vacations during the school year. Does your school have that rule?

Rule follower.
yes, I guess so. Is that a bad thing
Yes. If the rule is to sit on the bus quietly and not to stand up and you sit quietly while somebody tortures somebody else.
It is if the rule is to go to school every day and you miss a family reunion. I think family is more important than school but that is just me. My rules may be different than your rules. I don't follow other peoples rules.[/quote]
Just the ones you choose to then?

p.s: I'm pretty sure there is no rule somebody has to siit on the bus quietly while somebody tortures somebody else.
I did not adhear when I was rushing somebody to the hospital.
I pay my taxes because not paying them does not help anybody else.
I am a maverick and my son has stood up to 3 bullies for other kids in his his 7 years at school. Care to share your experiences with stopping bullies?
