My DH and I made a commitment htat we would never accumulate clutter! 5 years in and we are proud to say our place is clutter free. we just don't buy random crap we don't need. It's not hard to be clutter free! We also chose to live in a place much smaller than our means so that we wouldn't have room to accumulate it either.. so maybe that's the secret?

Well do you ever think of the poor people and what they could do with the money that you are hoarding?

Hoarding, lol. It is that person's decision to have however much money he/she wants in the bank.

If I have too much stuff, how come I can't find anything to wear and the kids don't have any shoes that fit? Luckily we don't have the problem of throwing away food since teenagers will eat anything in sight.

We have a lot of stuff that has been in my family for generations and I feel a responsibility to save for future generations. I've gotten rid of 3/4ths of it, but the remainder is all I have left of my family (everyone but me and one other person is dead) and it literally pains me to get rid of it. I don't feel bad about keeping that stuff, but, I agree with the folks who mentioned the food we throw away. There are probably people on my block who could have used it.

as a descendent of a third world country, yes, i do think about these things. i was watching oprah's recent show on her trip to india. a family of four lived in a room the size of a closet. everything they owned was in this room. i urge you to check it out.

When my ex and I split, we went through everything in the house and decided to keep it, or throw it away. It was crazy how many trips I had to take to the dump.

I used to could fit in 2 seabags. Now I fit in a large u-haul and that is good enough for me.
