I love good Indian food but I can appreciate and enjoy most ethnic food done properly. After almost ten years in the DC area, I've yet to find real Mexican food.

And, I'm Irish, would you believe! I know what you mean about bland Irish food and i've eaten plenty, but I have to say, the food there has improved over the years. Living in the US, I have come to appreciate the fresh taste of wild Irish salmon, the flavorful meats from pasture raised livestock, the wonderful cheeses and the rich creamy milk. Granted, my father is a farmer, with his own livestorck and butcher, and a good connection to some fishermen, but Ive had pretty decent (if expensive) meals in restaurants over the years.

OP--post where you are headed and I'll try to make some recommendations!

OP here, good to hear! What about spices, vegetables, fruits?

And to another responder about "Asian food"- I absolutely hate Americanized Chinese food, so perhaps I should have written "South Asian food" that I am partial to? I've spent a lot of time in Southern Asia countries and none have disappointed. Unfortunately I have not had the privilege of trying the cuisine from every country close to the equator, so no, I can't exactly verify my hypothesis. Perhaps when I win the lottery and spend the rest of my years traveling... I only wish...

Yeah, I like Indian, but would not want to eat it the rest of my life less I wanted to die early from some sort of obesity related disease.

Is that common in India? Had no idea.

People get fat from eating Western European food the wrong way. A serving of chocolate mousse is not supposed to be the size of a Big Gulp. Rich cheeses are not meant to be consumed in large quantities. Buttery croissants are not stuffed with ham, egg, and cheese.

What's causcasian food? Wonder bread and peanut butter? Caucasians aren't monolithic...the variety of food cultures in Europe alone is pretty vast.

Ding!

Hello? Hello??

"I'm partial to Asian food..." ... man, its empty in here...

OP here, sorry for any misunderstanding. Because my favorites are Indonesian, Indian, and Vietnamese, I feel like I'm partial to those from Asian countries. I certainly wasn't lumping them all as one cuisine.

I'm Indian, and cook a lot of different kinds of cuisines at home. Indian cuisine itself is pretty diverse, though you don't see too much regional variation in restaurants in the US, they tend to be pretty generic North Indian-style dishes.

If I had to pick a favorite, I'd go with a style rather than a single cuisine - I love food from all the Mediterranean regions because of the simple preparations and the emphasis on fresh seasonal produce.

Indian and Peruvian.

However, I disagree wtih you in regards to Northern Cuisine. I LOVE LOVE me some German and Austrian food. I grew up with an Austrian mother who can cook up some amazing comfort foods....and the trips to Austria...OMG the sausages and dried meats and chocolates.....hmmmmm.

Don't worry, some of us got it.

I got it, and you're right. One time, when my coworker ordered Chinese food for lunch, when the delivery guy got here, she exclaimed (to him): "Chinese food!"

Poor guy must get that so much. I felt so badly for him and inwardly cringed.

OP, don't worry: in Ireland, they have all types of foods, not just the traditional fuddy-duddy Irish fare (and I"m Irish-American, so I totally know what you are talking about; I don't like that type of food either!). But when I traveled in Ireland, you could get whatever food you wanted: Thai, Italian, whatever.
