We have a lawn service mow our lawn but I only want organic fertilizers and things used, so guess what, we have weeds. It doesn't look bad b/c it is mowed short regularly. We have an annoying neighbor who keeps pointing out the "weeds" in our front yard and asking if I need him to pick them. .

HOA? Check the rules because you may be held to that standard.

And how does he know that the weeds in your yard didn't come from him? Is the wind always blowing toward his house. Next time he says, I'd like to talk to you about your lawn, respond with, I'm glad, because I think weed seeds are coming from your yard into mine.

If the weeds are that visible, the white ones, it's something people in your neighborhood have the right to complain about. That looks terrible.
Really? What is so bad about visible weeds? It's not like there are car parts in the front yard. In our neighborhood, we've got a few neighbors who hang laundry out to dry in their backyards. I've had other neighbors complain that it looks trashy, but I'm all for it. More environmentally friendly than using the dryer. And, what makes it look trashy?

Don't bring down the neighborhood because you don't want to do anything that's not fun with your kids on the weekends. A weed-filled lawn would piss me off because it reflects poorly on the neighborhood.
OP here. That's why I mentioned that we're in a solidly middle class neighborhood. This is most definitely NOT McLean/Potomac. We're not the only people with a bunch of weeds in the yard. Some lawns are perfectly manicured, but some are most definitely not.
Why are the weeds such a problem? The weeds are green and as long as the yard is mowed and edged, it looks neat enough. We do have pride in ownership, but yanking out weeds every weekend seems to me like a huge waste of time.
