Yay!! I am really relieved and happy to hear she is staying. We've had nothing but great experiences with Mrs. Main, and found her very friendly and welcoming to us anytime we've spoken with her.

Here we go again, you are back with nothing informative to say.

Wow. We have had children at Lafayette for years. We know a good number of Lafayette families and none of them are fond of Ms. Main. Most teacher we've had over the years don't care for her and have no qualms about sharing their negative perspectives. Our own kids, who love their teachers, think Ms. Main is mean. Our youngest is actually fearful of Ms. Main because of her constant yelling and threats.

Neither the HSA or Ms. Main has made an announcement stating that she's staying. This has been handled very poorly. I wish she would leave; she's unfriendly and doesn't look like she's enjoying the job. The majority of folks I know, who have been around only a few years, agree.

Watch for the announcement soon. It's coming. Henderson has asked her back--see how informed some the previous posters are? And you must not know many folks, because she is generally very well regarded. As a parent of two at Lafayette, I'm very relieved to know that she will be back. She definitely enjoys the job, you only had to see her hold back tears at the Pre-K graduation to see that. And she is running a 700 plus child school; she's not unfriendly, but it impossible for her to massage every neurotic parent to the extent that they demand. Any principal at Lafayette will have to be the same or drown.

I agree with PP for the most part. But I think the difference in opinion about Ms. Main breaks with folks that have younger kids. Especially anyone dealing with the 50 kid classroom.

Happy Ms. Main is staying put. We've got just one more year. Glad to have the continuity and now that Deal's principal is secured (also a known entity) I feel better now.

It's not that she's unfriendly, she's just awkward around parents, probably because they're not her favorite group of people. I'm neutral on her staying - I was worried about what was coming to replace her. The Principal track record in DC isn't so great, and she's a known quantity.

The influx to Deal as opposed to private schools is partly due to the recession, but mostly thanks to the sky-high tuition that private schools are charging. Very few parents can afford $20-30,000 a year PER CHILD.
When my three siblings and I graduated from Lafayette and went to private schools, my mother's salary as a teacher could cover all of our tuitions. We lived on my father's salary. I very much doubt that could happen today--at least not in this area.
That said, there seem to be long waiting lists and no shortage of students at private schools, so some might say the schools are just charging market prices.
We were priced out of the market long ago. Even if we received financial aid for HALF the tuition, we could not afford private schools for our two children. And you always ask yourself if the school is "worth it."

I'm surprised so many graduates are going to Deal. I thought Lafayette sent more kids on to private school. Maybe those days are over?

I agree as a parent of an incoming student that it would be helpful to have examples. Are we just talking about an annoying parent group or PTA group that drives the culture, or principal or teachers?
