Can anyone not originally from VA offer any insight as to how it's regarded?
I'm curious how you arrived at this conclusion. Do you have a cite? U of R is called only "moderately selective" whereas UVA and W&M are both "highly selective". Schev's report on GPAs has both UVA and W&M way ahead of UOR: weighted gpas at at UVA at the 75th percentile at a 4.51 and 4.53 for W&M. U0R's is only a weighted 3.95. UoR does not attract the same caliber of student as does W&M or UVA

Georgetown. Boston university. Tufts sort of. Brown. Georgia tech. Northwestern. U of Minnesota.
American.
But having said that, college do a good job of keeping kids safe, and kids learn to be part of that process. I wouldn't let safety concerns dictate where she goes, at least not to a draconian degree.

It's strange - VCU is a bit gritty and U. Richmond is almost too country club. Something in between would probably be a bigger attraction to more students.
Have you seen VCU lately? I have not but have heard several times that it's much improved since I don't know when. VCU is also enjoying a surge in applications thanks to Shanka Smart and crew. DS will be checking it out this year. I'd love to hear any recent intel on VCU.
