Yes, the nonstick finish has held up fine. Normally, I use the paddle to scoop out rice, which is plastic and protects the surface, but more than once, I've used metal spoons and I've still not harmed the surface.

Also, I bought a cookbook when I got the cooker. It's called something like, Not Your Mother's Rice Cooker, and it has been great for recipes like risotto (unusual and unorthodox, but tasty) and oatmeal and such.
