This may not be popular, but I would try to rehome her OP. My sister had a cat like this. Made her life miserable. Meowed at her constantly, wasn't nice to her, wasn't happy with her at all. And my sister loves cats! She was starting a new job and I said, "hey, give me the damn cat for a week so you can get some sleep and live in peace during the stressful first week." I had a cat myself so it was no big deal. Never gave her back. She was an entirely different cat with me, and she lived the rest of her life much happier with me and my other cat. Give your cat a chance to have a happy home life. But be honest with the shelter and make sure it's a no-kill shelter.

Honestly, you are the human with the (supposedly) higher brain power: simply don't leave sweaters around for her to get. It's like I tell my husband when he's ranting about something the cat did b/c he left something out. Who's supposed to be the "higher" animal here???? Oh yeah, right. . . .

And, since you say you have had cats before, you know that when cats look at you, they are not plotting your demise. That's just plain silly. You sound like a person who is not used to cats, but just threw that part in there to try to convince us. I don't buy it.

Lastly, if you were as familiar with cats as you say you are, you'd know that some cats can get over-stimulated easily, so, even though they invite you to pet them or rub on them, they can turn quickly on a dime and panic and try to bite your hand. It's just like if someone were tickling you: at first you'd be like, "That's so funny!" but you could turn on a dime and be like, "Stop! Stop! Stop!" You have to watch their (the cat's) body language and only touch them where they are not sensitive. And, plus, if you know your cat is particularly apt to be sensitive, just don't touch them like that.

Again, I really do not think it's hard to read cats' body language or get to know them if you are used to cats I feel sorry for your cat if you have had them this long and yet their behavior seems to be such a clueless inigma to you, such that you are ascribing such (false) ill intentions to him/her. Sigh. Sad.
