I'm not friends with the host, DH is a relative of her husband. It was a formal affair and the food was half catered half home made. Not sure if the spoiled dish was home made or catered.

would not have gotten sick.... i did end up having stomach issues, while no one else did, but i have a sensitive stomach.

Depends on what food it is. Something with mayo or more obvious - yes. I had a similar experience at a party before, and my DH said the same thing yours did. He noticed that something was off with the mussels and had me and my sons stop eating them. He has a keen sense of smell and taste. Chances are most people would have have gotten sick, but DH knew for sure they weren't fresh.

No, you definitely can't count on it. Some things--spoiled milk, sure. But most things, no. You can't see, smell, or taste many forms of bacteria.


DUMB. You don't smell the bacteria. You smell their "products"...


BTW, it's not only bacteria but also fungus.
