+1 - In fact, we had to set up the appt from the hospital. The hospital asked for the details of the appt and I believe the hospital also called to verify.

Thanks. How can you get an appt in advance - never know when baby will be born?

You don't, you have the nurse call them from the hospital.

If your pediatrician has hospital privileges, then they'll come see the baby in the hospital (otherwise, the staff pediatrician will see the baby), t hen they'll want to see your baby 2-3 days after you get home and then again at two weeks to make sure the baby is gaining weight/feeding properly/etc...

I can only speak for my experience of a healthy baby I was planning to have at home but ended up having in the hospital: For a home birth, McLean Peds wants to see the baby within 48 hours of the birth and then again at 1 week (they like to get a call from the midwife on how baby's doing within a few hours of the birth). For a hospital birth, Dr Evars was there within 24 hours and came at least 2 more times during our 5 day stay - I was grateful for his presence and he got the hospital Drs to back off the unnecessary repeat tests.

In my experience, Yelp is like the worst place to get advise on medical practices and car repair shops. The reviewers do not seem to have representative experiences at all. Check out your favorite provider and see what Yelp has to say about them, then let me know if you think it's a reasonable assessment of the practice. But, to address the issues raised on Yelp -

Is your friend the one who wanted a same day sick visit but was a new patient? They prioritize seeing sick patients the same day but if you're not already an established patient, it's more difficult to squeeze them in same day. I doubt this is specific to McLean. Regarding the decor - it's true, the office is very plain. That's not important to us though - bring your own toys, less disease spreads that way.

We see Dr Thiede and she is our favorite. She is rather matter of fact and has children of her own so she isn't going to be shocked by the cuteness of your baby, but I guess whether that bothers you is just a personality thing. And then the comments about the nurses - don't know what to say, we've never had that problem. We usually get the male nurse and he's super friendly, very hygienic, and is rapid quick with the shots so we can get them over with.

The OP asked about holistic pediatric offices that accept insurance and all the natural, home-birthy, alternative vaccine schedule families I'm friends with go to McLean and are very pleased.

We love Nancy Hoover. She's a lactation consultant, as well, which has been awesome!
