Hey, I'm the OP...how do you know being a single mom is self inflicted...maybe the father chose to leave, what was I supposed to do? Chain him to a chair? Maybe he refuses to pay child support and the process takes FOREVER. Or hey, maybe he died. That could be a possiblity. He didn't, but he did move out of state and leave us to fend for ourselves. Asshole.
And yes, I did loan my BROTHER my car, are you saying you wouldn't ever loan a family member your car? I fully expected him to bring it back. Now I know better.

I don't know OP's situation but may I remind you that not all single mom's are promiscuous. Their are other ways to become single mothers. And even if she is partially to blame for having a hard life judgement like this rarely helps anything.

Are you serious?? In hindsight, she might be regretting letting him use her car.. But how presumptuous of you to assume that you know anything about why she may be a single mother. Get off of your high horse and realize that no matter what reasons she has for it, that it is still a real problem.

I'm SO very sorry you're in this position. You've should definitely call that guy's PO. I'm not going to call him your brother because he's not family. I had a sibling like that and it took me a very long time to realize that even though I loved him when we were young, he grew into someone I didn't love - and I didn't owe him anything. I hope you get to that point. It may be hard but what this guy did is unconsciousable.

OP, please take your friend up on her offer to help you with transportation while you sort this out.

Does your brother have a probation officer?

Cops cant do a fucking thing. They told me I "gave the car away" when I handed him the keys and the only way to get it back is by sending a registered letter to his address (which he doesn't have because he JUST got out of prison) and then he has FIVE days to return it. I am so angry right now I'm in tears.

Being a single mom is hard enough, now I'm a single mom with no transportation!!!! I work too far away to take public transportation and because I'm already struggling to make ends meet I wont be able to pay for daycare for my son AND additional transportation until I get the damn car back. FML
