I think I made sure to mention in both my posts that I was speaking from my experience only. I don't know statistics for what you're looking for and I don't feel like researching. I can continue to speak from my experience because I don't really feel like getting academic right now. You don't have to "buy" it, although I don't think you need to be so skeptical about something I've shared as being personal experience only.

For the group of people I'm talking about (generally women, very religious Christians, very socially conservative), things they frown upon include:
1. Sex outside of marriage
2. Dating outside of your religion
3. For some, being close friends with people outside of your religion
4. Non-gospel music
5. Abortion

Again, this is from my experience. These people are just like religious extremists of any race. Most people I know (including most black people I know) are pro gay rights. I'm not denying that anti-gay black people exist. It's just that if (as Pew Research Center Stats from 2012 show) 49 percent of blacks oppose gay marriage and 39 percent of blacks of support gay marriage, I'm overwhelmingly around 39 percenters. And the ones I know who are against it are mainly in online communities and they're religious to the point of being against a ton of things.

There are a lot of men who are not particularly religious who are anti-gay. Example: http://sports.espn.go.com/nba/news/story?id=2766213 Maybe as one earlier poster pointed out with women i'ts a Christian thing. With men it's more often a manhood thing.

I didn't disagree with this in my post or even bring this up at all, really. I was just responding to the PP who referred to black people as a "left-leaning liberal group." Again, in my experience, many vote Dem but are pretty conservative, some being extremely so. I admittedly interact with more men than women, though.

I wasn't discounting non-religion-based homophobia. Hardaway's words were very hateful, and of course he's not the only person who thinks like that. Interestingly, he has apparently made a turn around. In part PR motivated, I'm sure, but it seems like he really has grown as a person.

They're not just against gay marriage, they're against everything. For example, some think even Christian rap music with a positive message is evil.

For what it's worth, I don't think that the black community is that much different than the Hispanic community or even the white community or any other community when it comes to having an issue with homophobia. However, the black community is more strongly aligned with the Democratic Party than those other communities. Therefore, the Party and a significant number of community members are at odds on this issue. Add in the fact that many see same sex marriage and such as a civil rights issues and given the close association of the black community and the civil rights movement, the black community gets held to a higher standard.
