I had all three cervical ripening agents. They did this for 36 hours. My water broke on its owns during the induction and they started pitocin the next morning. Baby didn't like pitocin so they slowed it down. 46 hours later and still no dilation or contraction I had a c-section.

So don't count on them starting pitocin the next morning. It will really depend on how your cervix is looking and only work if things are looking good.

I agree with the poster who said that this forum will freak you out about inductions, but as you can see, many women have vaginal deliveries with induction. I was 1cm dilated and no effacement at 41w5d. From cervadil to pitocin to Dr. breaking my water to delivery was less than 24 hours.

Labor is labor no matter how it starts - it is work! Be confident that you will do your best to help your labor progress and know that you have the strength and wisdom to bring this baby into the world with the help of your doctors. You've been getting ready for this for 9 months, and will soon meet your child. Good luck!

Another induction - 1) cervidil to start, pitocin at 6am, 45 min of pushing, dc born at 11pm. 2nd time - no cervidil, pitocin at 6am, 3 pushes, dc born at 3pm


Everyone is different - go with your gut, and if you trust your dr - listen to them.

I also waited as long as I could and went in at 41w6d with my first. Cervadil didn't do anything overnight, so they gave me another cervadil-like drug in the morning. That worked, started pitocin at 2 pm and baby born a little after 6 pm. All in all, a good experience, but intense contractions once they started.

I tried to avoid an induction and waited as I could. I was 41w6d - 13 days overdue.

Checked into the hospital in the evening. Still no progress of any kind. Started cervadil at 7pm. Baby born at 12:41a.m.

It was intense but quick.

Was dilated a "fingernail" according to my OB when I got to the hospital (induced at 39 weeks for medical reasons). After overnight cervidil dilated 2 inches. Baby born 3.5 hours after pictocin started.

I was induced both times.

With the first, it took much longer and almost did end in a C section but only b/c my daughter was "sunnyside up" and ripped me in two (practically).

With the second, it was quick and easy.

I was also in your position. 45 hours later, including 2.5 of pushing I finally had a vaginal delivery. Had anyone offered me a c-section before the 44.5 hour mark I would have taken it, but they didnt offer it until I'd already been pushing forever and was reportedly making progress. At that point I pretty much managed to go on because I was made that they hadn't offered when I was still at a fingertip dilated 24 hours and a round each of cervadil, pitocin, and misoprostal previously.

I was in your exact position. Did Cervidil one night and started Pitocin the next morning. Had a c-section around 3 p.m. No regrets.
