Mine is pretty messy but I have just accepted it as a fact. (I have to admit Im not exactly a neat freak either.. but I do try...) He is a great father and has a lot of other wonderful qualities. Housekeeping just isn't one of them. I will say that when I say "Dear, the house is a disaster and I need some help this weekend" he will do his share. If he comes in while Im folding laundry he helps put it away. The bedroom is usually where we just dump stuff and one day I came home and the whole room was spotless, it was a fabulous surprise! But day to day, cleaning up after dinner means putting the dishes on the kitchen counter, and when I get up I usually know what he had from breakfast from what's left on the table.

Mine is super (almost OCD) neat. I am definitely the messier person but his neatness has rubbed off on me (for the most part), and my more "carefree" ways have helped him to unclench a little. End result though- a very clean and tidy house!

I think it's interesting that a lot of people blame their spouse's messiness on growing up with a maid. We had a live-in cook/housekeeper when I was growing up, and as a result, I'm a neat freak. Just because I don't hire a cleaning service doesn't mean my cleanliness standards are any lower than what I had growing up. Just thought it was odd, that's all.

He isn't messy so much as he is clutter-y. When I was single, other than the remote control and maybe a magazine, nothing sat on my coffee table. Now he'll leave junk mail stacked miles high. His office is a nightmare. When we did an addition one of my requirements was separate offices. Drives me absolutely batty.

Dudes have other skills/chores - like fixing cars, taking out trash, changing air filters, mowing yards, protecting the family when you hear noises at night, etc...

Let men be men and hire some help or suck it up and please realize that most men don't complain at all about all their man chores.
