Parent of above child here. Just picked up the GBRS--a dismal 6. All comments positive, although based on something that was written most were gleaned from a one time 5 minute conversation with my child in early February. Anyhow, I feel this seals the deal with the appeal process as far as ineligibility. Now onto working on crafting an appropriate letter to get the right teacher for next year at current school!

CogAt 134 (verbal 138)
GBRS unknown but probably low.
Did WISC two weeks ago, FSIQ 128 with Verbal at 136.
Issues with Working Memory/processing speed--?ADHD--going through full workup.
Plan to appeal with WISC.
And you should - Sounds perfect for the AAP center
Thanks for the vote of confidence. I think so too. DC is just quirky enough that I don't think his current teacher gets him or realizes his potential. The WISC administrator says he won't get in on appeal but to appeal anyway to make a complete file and ask for Level III services next year.
I disagree. Your child sounds like a perfect fit for the AAP centet.
Perfect? no, but looks like just above borderline to me.

Should we get a WISC? Why scores all over place?[/
If it were me, I would get the WISC. The GBRS alone is convincing. Good luck in whatever you decide.

Anonymous wrote:PP here with the DC with the seemingly anomalous WISC score. The way this was explained to be the WISC administrator is that CogATs and NNATs are both slanted a bit to a child with strong non-verbal capabilities.
To this end, our DC scored a 133 on Perceptual reasoning rating -- very superior in three out of five subtests -- but only 112 on verbal (just high average). Within that DC, did well in a couple of areas - vocabulary (superior) and information (very superior) - but just average in comprehension. DC also scored average (just 100) on processing speed with one low average (Coding). Working memory was high average.
The processing speed index - and also the comprehension issue - are what look like red flags to me that something is quite right. This is proving to be a very interesting journey.
