Hi, it's the OP. First, thank you for the responses. Tomorrow I am going to call the county again for some good begging. I am also going to contact the Therapeutic Nursery School as that does seem to fit his needs. I am trying to see his being kicked out as a positive that we will be able to find a better situation which can help him better, so fingers crossed that we are on the right path! If anyone has any other school suggestions, please let me know!

Not OP, but it is important IMO that a child with problems like this get as much of a chance to "practice" his large group social skills before Kindergarten.


I don't agree with this. If he isn't required to be enrolled in school and has such violent reactions to the school environment, I would withdraw him. There are other opportunities for him to be around his peers that aren't FT preschool. My DS had a lot of sensory issues and I got this advice. Less is more for children who are overly sensitive to such an environment. School can be quite chaotic and overwhelming even for a NT child. Aggressive behavior may indicate that the environment is not right for him. Why subject him to this on a daily basis if it isn't necessary?

I thought 4 years is way too young but the new guidelines that came out will open the door for these quick diagnosis which should be considered suspect

I agree with begging the county. I would also suggest starting to look into OT summer camps. I think you have a better chance of finding a good (but expensive) OT camp than you do finding a preschool with an opening, let alone an opening for a child where the shadow wasn't helpful enough.

You might also look into OT related social skills groups?

I'd look at the Therapeutic Nursery Program at the Lourie Center, it's a fantastic program for kids like yours!

Agree with 15:04 and 15:17. Op, just ignore 13:59. It sounds like you are doing everything you can for your dc. I'm the poster who asked if your behaviorist could help with school placement. Sounds like you are doing a lot of therapy. Perhaps just continue that for the next 6-8 weeks and see if you can get dc into an appropriate camp.

This is a totally inappropriate comment for this forum. As a place for support, please assume that the specialists have properly diagnosed and the parents are doing the best they can. SNs are not caused by poor parenting.

Have you thought about some of the SN camps for the summer? Summer Buddies is one possiblility.
