People usually come here for opinions on obscure subjects. They don't come here for information on parking rules. I think that the uproar was caused because the 11th grade student did not know the parking rules at her own school.

Wow, you people really seem to have chips on your shoulders about "W" students and kids coming from privilege in general. How do you know the first thing about the OP's child and her reasons for driving? And let's face it, there are kids who act entitled, gossip on Twitter/Facebook, and get drunk and stupid all over the map. It's not just a "rich' thing. Relax!!

What I haven't read that in the more affluent parts of the county the teenagers tell the parents what to do. The parents are afraid to say no.

If you don't believe me read some of their twitter feeds. Twitter is quite popular in the W schools. They use it as much as Facebook. Google your favorite student's name (as long as he/she doesn't have a really common name) and you will get their twitter account. Read it and you will find all about their sex life, how drunk they got, and how they tell their parents what to do.

I think the Mom asked a legitimate question. Perhaps she didn't know until the day she posted (SUNDAY!) that she'd need to find another way for her child to get to school. Perhaps it was too late to figure out how to get her onto the bus. Perhaps she is like us, we live to close to school for DD to get a bus to elementary school, but perhaps she lives far enough away from the HS that her daughter can't make it to her after school obligation (like a doctor's appointment or work) if she had to walk home and pick up the car. My guess is DD didn't know how/where to park because she just got her license.

Her school's listserve might have been a better place to ask, but OP certainly didn't deserve the shameful response you all put forth, immediate PP excepted. SHAME ON YOU.

Every MC high school seems to have a large parking lot with student parking. It is not a crime for licensed kid to drive to school. And some kids need to drive to after school jobs or internships so there are legitimate reasons why a kid may need to drive to school. Blair parent here. I would be harshly critical no matter where OP lived, assuming that the school bus or other bus alternative(s) existed. I think it is horrific that thousands of high school students forego the bus, and clog area roads daily with unnecessary cars (driven by inexperienced drivers) because it is not "cool" to take the bus. I hate the patterns it sets for our children's generation and I hate the mentality that accompanies such a choice.
