Can someone fill me in here! What does it mean to do the IVF out of state! I understand how the process works if you are using donor egg, but with our own eggs how can we use an out of state fertility clininc? I was told NYU has the best fertility clinic, but I never considered them because I didnt know how I can go up there evry other day for monitoring. Thanks.

I have not discussed enrolling in ORM "IVF Refund" program. It is not the same as shared risk at SG. I think you have one cycle and get to use all your frozen embros and if you don't have a baby they will refund your fee minus donor compensation and meds expense. You have to meet them in person to enroll in this program. I heard they are so confident in their success rates that very few patients actually enroll in this program.
When I called Dominion they took my insurance info so I hope they would be able to bill something to my insurance. If not I guess I will have to pay OOP for the bloodworks and ultrasounds, there should not be that many. Also I heard that Dominion does not mind seeing you after you got your BFP and will monitor you until you are released to OB, whereas SG refuses to see you for PG ultrasounds.
I don't mind answering questions if it helps you to make up your mind to choose the best clinic for your situation.

We did DE w/ Hummel at SDFC, too! We loved him -- accessible, knowledgable, caring, competent. Best of all, we have 2 beautiful children thanks to them. And a few more embryos left to try with. Definitely worth the travel. They were expert at handling the out-of-state cycle and made it as painless as possible, plus the "vacations" out to SD were not so bad! We weren't in DC at the time, so sorry I can't weigh in on where to do local monitoring.

If you are new to out of state cycling and want to try with your own eggs, check out CCRM outside of Denver, CO and Cornell in NYC. Maybe also NYU in NYC. CCRM is fantastic at handling out of state patients.

OP: Prev poster, I am also on PVED more as a lurker. Would love to join a group here. May I also ask if you are in ORM shared risk? When you called for local monitoring if you have coverage for monitoring will they bill for you or you have to pay? Thanks, sorry so many questions.

OP here - I originally did 2 OE IVF and had an m/c at 8 weeks. Did 2 DE IVF and only had one chemical. All the rates in the local clinics around here is only in the 50% which is unacceptable. I got my shared risk money back and now going to ORM, I also looked at SDFC but when I had my consult with Dr. Hesla, I really liked the way he reviewed our records throughly and patiently answered all our questions over the phone. ORM's take home baby rate dropped in 2010 to 73% and Dr. Hesla said it was due to patients who used known donors which sometimes not suitable donors. If you look at their website their rates from 2005 to 2010 averaged 79%. They also like to do eSET which can reduce the success rate down by 10%. Their twin rate is very high about 60%. I am thinking I want to transfer 2 blasts and take my twin rate at 60% or have a vanishing twin and have take home baby rate at 80%. Either way it is a win-win situation for me.

It is stressful to schedule traveling but I think it will be absolutely worth it in the end if we are successful. The ladies in the PVED who live in Portland Oregon are so nice and helpful with their suggestions when you travel to ORM for treatment. We are hoping to start a local PVED group get together in DC area very soon.

OP: Did you do DE at SGF for 3yrs, all DE cycles? I am asking because I am in a similar situation with late loss baby girl and M/C and after 4yrs no baby. I am looking at SDFC with Dr. Hummel. But SGF still has my money for shared risk, too scared to get it back!!! But SGF can not figure out why I can't get pregnant now. Thanks
