I moved here thinking I'd make friends like anywhere, have good relationships- and I see from DCUM that most likely, that's not going to happen. I might develop some friendships, but I highly doubt they will be life-long lasting ones. I also realized people here are so much more superficial than I ever thought, and now it occurs to me to be self conscious about things that never would have occurred to me in the past. In short, DCUM has given me a far less generous view on people in DC.
You do realize that many of the people who post on here aren't even living in DC? And that "population that posts on DCUM" does not equal "people who live in DC"? I can imagine the people who spend time on DCUM are such a minute slice of the people who live in DC, that I am astounded that anyone would actually think that the attitudes on here are respresentative of DC as a whole. To say that based on what you have read on an anonymous public internet board, you have determined that "the people here" are "so much more superficial" and to assume that you're not going to make any lasting friendships and to extrapolate these posts to a general "far less generous view on people in DC" is just bizarre. Really? You believe that the people on DCUM are wholly representative of the DC population?
