Subject: Can someone explain "fiscal conservatism" to me?
so is this thread to actually find out what fiscal conservatism is or was it just a loaded question so that OP could then accuse repuglicans of wasteful spending and clinton of being responsible?

Which post are you referring to with that link? I didn't read anything about fiscal conservatism. I think most people are confusing it with cutting social programs (i.e. social conservatism).
The misguided conscience you are referring to has to do with personal liberties (i.e. equal rights for all, including same sex marriage, woman's "right to choose", keeping religion out of our bodies and our lives). That is where Republicans are completely opposite to the Libertarians.
The Republican party today seems to be about social conservatism, reducing personal liberties, and fiscal irresponsibility (such as Bush #2's spending spree and that "tax rebate" socialist plan).
I think the OPs statements about why people shouldn't get more of her money" show fiscal conservativism. She ignores the social side.
I am the OP. I don't think I ever mentioned anything about people not "getting more of my money". As I wrote, fiscal conservatism (as I have learned it) is reducing the deficit and balancing the budget. Socially, I am quite moderate. I would argue that if our society is better educated, then we are better off. Same with health care- if our society is healthier, productivity is increased. Of course, to a point. To me, that is being "fiscally conservative". I am happy to pay taxes, as long as the go to the progress of our society. I have representation, so I am not part of the "Tea Party". I want to leave this country better off for my kids. I live within my means, and expect my government to do the same.
I do not believe that wanting reduced personal taxes is "fiscal conservatism", that is just being cheap.
No no, not you OP. The OP of the OTHER thread I copied into this thread. The OP of the OTHER thread (see link above) to me embodies what most people mean when they say, "I am socially liberal and fiscally conservative". It means don't tax me and I don't give a crap about anybody else. Don't care about gay marriage, about welfare, about abortion. Just leave my taxes out of it.

^^^ But that is for social programs, i.e. social conservatism. I still argue that fiscal conservatism is decreasing national debt and balancing the budget. I don't see that as a big issues with Republicans as it was 40 years ago. Clinton was the most fiscal conservative president in my lifetime that I can think of.

But that is not fiscal conservatism. That is social conservatism. You want to cut programs like welfare (a social program).

You know whats worse. In DC you can only use your foodstamps on NON prepared HOT foods. So... the lady behind the counter coached the welfare lady to get Sushi because it is classified as cold and she could eat that for lunch. This is while the business folks like me lined up to get the 3 dollar sandwich deal. WTF. What's better is that there is a meal tax for things you buy prepared but not for grocery items, so you are basically paying for that lady to eat her Sushi WTF.

I thought food stamps were supposed to restrict what a person could buy, to healthy stuff? Or is that just WIC? Women-Infants-Children..... hmmm so an unemployed MALE can get what he wants on food stamps but a mother on food welfare is restricted to healthy stuff? I smell another war on women!

This my friend is Libertarian
Libertarian isn't really a feasible option in the election however. So Socially Liberal Fiscally Conservative (SLFC) is where Libertarianism meets Republicanism - because the voter's selfishness is the #1 priority. If they truly gave a crap about personal freedom they would not be able to vote R.

He or she bought a Monster energy drink, cheetos, cheeto puffs, gatorade xtreme, beef sticks, bakery cake, microwave popcorn, rockstar grape, juice, and 3 avocados. Guess how they paid?
