I sort of used to feel this way, until someone explained it to me as follows: you have two living entities here -- a woman, and a first trimester fetus. If the mother doesn't want to carry the pregnancy, then you have a situation where you can not protect the rights of both -- that is, either you trample on the rights of the woman and force her to carry the pregnancy, or you trample on the "rights" of the fetus and abort it. In cases like this, how can we not choose to protect the woman's rights over those of the fetus? It is a horrible choice to have to make, and I personally would never ever have an abortion, but we can't make that choice for others. And yes, it is indeed terminating a life - it is a sad reality, but there's no way around abortion, except to eliminate the need for an abortion in the first place.
