I have t seen these for forever. Back when they were so huge a few years ago my sil, a PICU doctor, told us they were dangerous and lots of kids were ending up in the er from them.
Would not buy.

Nice to get a gd feel of the pros and cons. My daughter is 4 year old and her aunty just got her a really nice pair. Without a doubt, she loves them absolutely but I had to research the pros and cons. Thanks y'all.

Heelys (heelies?)

We don't allow them because they are not allowed in many places (and I'm so tired of seeing kids wheeling around on them where they aren't supposed to). There's also risk of injury with them. Kids don't wear helmets or anything while using them, but they can still fall.

The OP is from a year ago. I'm guessing the kid either got his Heelys or has moved on.

Heelys are dangerous, especially when the child is using them and learning and suddenly flies down your driveway into oncoming traffic. They've also been formally cited as dangerous and recalled. http://voices.yahoo.com/heelys-crippled-company-back-roll-5969900.html

I will just chime in that they do not allow one to walk properly. When the foot hits the ground, that phase of gait (walking) is called heel strike. From there we transfer the weight through our flat foot and roll forward pressing off with our toes. Heelies prevent a child from achieving heel strike, then affects each subsequent phase of gait. (I am a physical therapist).
