there is no uninsured person who has a heart attack/or other medical emergency who will not receive hospital care. The hospital, ala the rest of us who actually pay when we go there, eats the cost of care for those who cant/dont pay.

Preventive care/ other checkups, now thats another story. shouldve been born on the other side of the tracks and gone to college....

I also don't get what the GOP's alternative is. The chances of being able to afford health insurance out side of one subsided by an employer are slim. If you have ever tried to get non-group insurance you'd know how costly it is.

This is my question as well -- as a small business owner, I can tell you that health insurance (and not a fabulous policy, either -- a basic HMO) was our #2 expense after salaries. And every year we had to negotiate a new contract to avoid 30%+ premium increases having nothing to do with our employees' usage (no major claims).

I do not understand why small businesses (and large businesses) haven't clamored for nationalized health. It is absolutely in their best interest.

Only possible explanation: the lobby for the major health systems and insurers is more powerful.

Yes, I read daily about how everyone's trying to take down Denmark.

(16:05 again)- I should add, I also think not having coverage discourages small business owners. If your child is born with a hole in his heart, for example (or any other pre-existing condition), you would never be able to afford healthcare if you didn't work for a company that provided it. That isn't laziness.

I consider myself a moderate, but I would like to have all children covered re: healthcare. They don't have the option to pay for healthcare by themselves. I don't mind extra tax to live in a society where this is provided.
