I agree that sometimes posts from friends have me rolling my eyes. At the same time, I know that I have friends from multiple walks of life. My kid-less friends could care less about my toddler postings, but my family loves them. Some, like you, could care less about how much I ran today. The friends with whom I train for triathlons are very interested in my latest workouts.

You have to assume that it's not all geared at you. I hate the number of social and political commentary posts that I see. I don't talk about hot-button topics like gay marriage or abortion IRL, and it's annoying to me to have your views right there in my face. But, I don't block you because you are my friend and I am interested in the other things going on in your life.

The posts I enjoy the most are ones that turn me on to an inspiring quote I have never heard of. And the people who post the least tend to post things that are more interesting when they do post.

In general, I would say that the more I have learned about some of my FB friends through their ramblings and boasts, the less I like them in real life.

To each his own, I love reading about what other moms in particular are doing for exercise, especially if they are working moms. I need all the inspiration I can get. It helps me think that if they can do it being a working mom, then I should be able to make the time too. I see those moms who are in amazing shape and it is a reminder to me that if I want to be in that kind of shape, the dedication and drive it takes.

I admire some FB friends who are sincere in their positive approach to life and who share that with others.

I am turned off by those who are highly critical, preachy or overly political in their postings, whether on the left or right. I have also been surprised by how much attention some people seem to want and need.

OP, I enjoy lots of my facebook friends' postings, even the narcissistic and over the top ones. I read them for enjoyment and time filler and a little break, not to find deep meaning. Some of my favorites are just little parenting things people throw out about stuff that happened, particularly if just a throwaway observation that rings true. I wonder if you are trying too hard - you are asking about what types of posters we "actually admire" and you say you have a propensity to post only good stuff to make your life look rosy. Maybe this misses the boat? I don't admire any of my facebook friends for reasons related to their postings - I either admire them or not in their lives and mostly FB doesn't factor in.

Frankly most people I'm friends with I wish they would post more about their lives. I have friends living all over the world and I would love to hear more about their daily lives.

Of the ones I admire, I do wish I could hear more about what they are doing.

The posts I find a little grating are from people who post a lot and everything they do is completely uninteresting. e.g. "getting my nails done!" "getting the car repaired!" boooooring.

I love my FB friends. I am in touch with people who had not been in touch for years. I get to see their highs and lows, and their families. A lot of my friends are glamorous and have great lives, but are not braggy or showy. They have simply worked hard for what they have and do not have anything (ever) handed to them. It would never occur to them (ever) to ask anyone for anything. They are amazing people that I truly admire.

Come to think of it, they are not depressed and defeated as the people I have met here. The former keeps me sane
