West Potomac fits your criteria as well, AP, socioeconomically diverse, racially diverse.

Our babysitter went to Edison HS in Springfield. She had a very diverse group of friends. The racial diversity was striking but the socioeconomic diversity was more balanced. Seemed like a great school. Don't know about the numbers tho.

So basically you want to go to a school where poor students attend but you don't want to live where poor people live. Is that about right?

I guess we're in Goldilocks territory where the soup has to be just right.

Marshall is 6% AA and 16.2% Hispanic, and there is economic diversity as well (some of the wealthiest parts of Vienna and Falls Church, middle-class area in Pimmit Hills, and lower-income apartments off Route 7 all feed into Marshall). It's not a cliquish place, and it's a fairly low-key environment compared to schools like Langley, McLean or Madison.

South Lakes is more diverse than Marshall. Test scores are a good bit lower, which reflects the socio-economic mix. South Lakes has a very good track record with college admissions. Many of the elementary schools that feed into South Lakes like Terraset are quite diverse. Someone mentioned Sunrise Valley ES, but that's probably one of South Lakes' least diverse feeders.

PP here - just to clarify - I mean Thomas Jefferson Middle School in Arlington - not the magnet school in Fairfax

Arlington doesn't really do "pyramids" - it's more by neighborhood - but if you could get into a neighborhood that fed into Jefferson and then Washington-Lee I think you'd do pretty well on the instruction/diversity balance.
