His teacher was well aware of this and explained that the numbers would go up through the year as they covered the material on the benchmarks. They can't give a 5 when they haven't done activities in the class yet that address those benchmarks because the teacher has not yet had the chance to see the kids skills in those areas. I know it's frustrating, but it really doesn't matter in the end.
Anonymous wrote:This topic is amusing since I just volunteered in class and heard from one student the report cards of 3 students (including her own).. so kids do share.. I asked my DC and it was confirmed there was some sharing. I was really surprised- but it was funny since this student was bragging since she got a 5 and 4s on all else and then how the others got 3s and 2s (with specific names). My DC asked me what her grades were again which I breezed over but it was higher than the bragging student. I just said my kid did really well too and how everyone is doing great.

I was trying to show that they do give out 5s in some school in the areas that they have assessed individual levels (language arts) but not in the areas that they have not fully assessed individual working level (i.e. math).
How is it bragging on an anonymous board?
It isn't bragging on an anonymous board, but I do think that unless you want people to roll their eyes at you, to best not include that same dialogue with your friends who also have K students (and this from a mother of a K student who got a bunch of 5s). It just comes across as braggity.
