Are some people getting different report cards? Mine for my K student went up to 4, I didn't see 5 as an option. My child got all 3's which was listed as progressing at grade level. If she got up to 4, then that is what is expected towards the end of K.

They should never post kids on the wall. That's just shameful.

His teacher was well aware of this and explained that the numbers would go up through the year as they covered the material on the benchmarks. They can't give a 5 when they haven't done activities in the class yet that address those benchmarks because the teacher has not yet had the chance to see the kids skills in those areas. I know it's frustrating, but it really doesn't matter in the end.

My dc got all 5s in the numbered categories. This must not be a uniform rule. The only important info is really in the teacher narrative IMO.

I know. We barely spent one evening discussing the comments in the report card. I never even showed DC the grades.

I was really surprised- but it was funny since this student was bragging since she got a 5 and 4s on all else and then how the others got 3s and 2s (with specific names). My DC asked me what her grades were again which I breezed over but it was higher than the bragging student. I just said my kid did really well too and how everyone is doing great.

Seriously?! I'm one of the PPs, and my kiddo is totally oblivious to the fact that she even got a report card. I didn't tell her and I didn't tell her what was on it. She hasn't asked me about it, so I'm assuming there's not much talk going on in her class.

Please send me your email address. I'll be sure to run my posts by you to ensure I include just the "right" about of detail for your liking before I post to an anonymous forum. The detail I added was to address the facts that I was presenting. Fact = her scores; teachers comments. Details = why she gained certain scores.

I was trying to show that they do give out 5s in some school in the areas that they have assessed individual levels (language arts) but not in the areas that they have not fully assessed individual working level (i.e. math).

How is it bragging on an anonymous board?

It isn't bragging on an anonymous board, but I do think that unless you want people to roll their eyes at you, to best not include that same dialogue with your friends who also have K students (and this from a mother of a K student who got a bunch of 5s). It just comes across as braggity.

I don't know anyone else with a K student well enough to talk about report cards. The only person I've mentioned her scores to was a friend with an older child in FFC and my mom. I don't talk about report cards like I don't talk about my pay except with for a very few people who have a real interest or need to know.

just ask the teacher. I always go in for a conference a few times a year to find out how my kids are doing. I like to know if they are making friends, happy during the day, if they show a strength or a real interest in a subject. Then I ask about academics.

I don't know what's typical. DD got all 4s on her report card we just got. As far as my perception of her, she seems above-average, but not necessarily a shoo-in for AAP or anything. She seems to have a good grasp on the math they do in school, but she is just beginning to read.

The kid of a friend I talked to got 3s and 4s at a different school. Otherwise, I haven't discussed report cards with anyone.
